Visitors!

Around five pm, NSA played host to a Pacific Whiteside Dolphin convention. We saw hundreds f these amazing, curious animals over the course of four hours. They appeared from virtually every point of the compass to play around the bow. Steve hung his head over the side for an hour making eye contact, [...]

Still chugging along

171 to go.

Good morning

292 to go. Slowly motoring to conserve fuel, though I suspect we'll have more tan enough breeze once it turns on again. Very quiet here. Steve and Tim are racked out, radar is keeping a vigil, and I go topside to stare into the fog every 10 minutes or so, until the slatting mainsail makes me nuts. [...]

Ruminations with 380 to go

If you're tempted to offer God a small prayer for a "bit of breeze" to help you escape thee Pacific High, it pays to remember that He shops at Costco. You'll get your breeze in bulk.

Houston, we have a problem

"Nick, the instruments are going out" Sh*t, that's a main battery bank undervolt. We've lost the house bank. Where the hell is Tom Hanks when you need him? Yeah, we've been suspicious of the lithium iron phosphate main battery bank since about half way down TO HI when it seemed to take a ridiculous amount of time to bring them bacck to fully charged. S, in Honolulu I dropped some $$ on a pair of back up AGMs. It took me an hour to decommission the old bank and cable in the new batteries, but everything seems to be workinng properly at the moment anyway. The smart voltage regulator seems to be on the fritz as well,so we're running with the alternator's internal regulator and everyone seems to be happy.

Steve catches a 44" Dorado after 20 minutes of trolling. I dispatch the fish with a syringe full of Absolut. Tim fillets it. I cook it. Team effort.

2024

We're making decent progress north today courtesy of some favorable breeze. Our thanks to whomever offered the prayer for a break. It was answered and we needed it. We're about 12 hours from tacking towards home. If someone feels like lighting candle for 12 kts from 240, we'd be home in 5 1/2 days.
