Independence Day and our rumway

After heading back to Tahiti from Mo'orea we chilled out for a few days on the town quay in Papeete with Delos who had some friends on board. Wanting to explore the island we hired a car to seat 8, which ended up being a Hertz shuttle van and visited an ancient marae site, the world famous surf break at Teahupoo, the Bellvedere view point giving the view across Tahiti Iti (the smaller "island" which is actually joined to Tahiti Nui) and Point Venus where Cook observed the transit of venus in 1769.
The following day was July the 4th and we had organised an Independence Day party to be held on the pontoon between our boats. We were joined by cruisers from quite a few boats of varying nationalities, but all the Americans had their flags flying so Brad retaliated by hoisting the Aussie flag and Boxing kangaroo at the back of our boat. The day was a hot one and we filled up our paddling pools and sat around with our feet nice and cool with a few beers. Later on Delos played Team America on their projector onto a sheet at the back of their boat and we all sat on the pontoon to watch the show.... great fun!
We also managed a trip to the duty free shop which meant that we could buy alcohol at normal rather than super inflated French Polynesian prices. We now therefore have several Heineken 5l mini-kegs on board (disappearing at a very fast rate) and a jerry can full of rum! In fact we used the empty rum bottles to make a "rumway" between GHOST and Delos - hard to explain but see the pictures!
STILL waiting for parts for the rigging we decided to follow Delos and pretty much all the other cruisers we know northwest to explore the other Society Islands and celebrate Bastille Day and the eclipse so will head off shortly towards Huahine, Raiatea and finally Bora Bora.
