It's Official

It's a sad but good thing, we no longer own GHOST. She is now owned by an architect in Sydney who has plans of sailing the South Pacific once again.

Reality bites!!

It's been a while since we updated the blog. Apologies for that but we've been busy fighting off the onslaught of reality, not really wanting to admit it's over! After arriving it was the welcome party in Sydney, followed by a hectic week of moving ALL our personal stuff off GHOST. On a side note, it [...]

GHOST for sale!

Well it's sad news but GHOST is now officially up for sale!

28 November 2010 | Sydney Harbour, Australia

Welcome to Sydney GHOST

Well it was a brilliantly sunny day as we set off from Pittwater in GHOST, entering the Sydney heads about lunchtime. It was a pretty emotional sail through this iconic harbour which Brad has envisaged sailing into as long as he's dreamt of sailing home to Australia. Soon we were pulling up to the [...]

Not much fun out here

Brad
So we left yesterday (Monday) and very quickly started to encounter a quite large and confused sea. Last night was pretty average, no moon, 35 knots of wind and one of the the biggest and most confused sea we've had to date. The sea so confused and seems to be heavily influenced by a tide, so every 6 hours it improves a little only to get worse again 6 hours later. This is by far the most inhospitable passage we've had or perhaps moral is just at a low ebb.

We got hit pretty hard by a wave last night that took Ghost over on her side, further than she ever has before and we nearly lost the scuba tanks. The mounting rack was ripped off the mounting board so at 130am we had to get that all safely down below. This morning we broke a gybe preventer, the port lazy jacks (both since fixed) and then randomly the wind instruments have stopped working. We can still use the auto pilot set to a course bearing but must keep a closer eye on wind shifts.

Sleep is hard to come by so both pretty tired and we've had to take to wearing jumpers, long pants and even shoes at night...what the ?!?! we haven't done that since the other side of the Atlantic.

We hope this will all calm down some in the coming 24 to 36 hours, but right now the prospect of a hotel room with a bloody big spa bath, and Kat's lovely precooked lasagna is about all that is keeping us going.
