It's Official

It's a sad but good thing, we no longer own GHOST. She is now owned by an architect in Sydney who has plans of sailing the South Pacific once again.

Reality bites!!

It's been a while since we updated the blog. Apologies for that but we've been busy fighting off the onslaught of reality, not really wanting to admit it's over! After arriving it was the welcome party in Sydney, followed by a hectic week of moving ALL our personal stuff off GHOST. On a side note, it [...]

GHOST for sale!

Well it's sad news but GHOST is now officially up for sale!

28 November 2010 | Sydney Harbour, Australia

Welcome to Sydney GHOST

Well it was a brilliantly sunny day as we set off from Pittwater in GHOST, entering the Sydney heads about lunchtime. It was a pretty emotional sail through this iconic harbour which Brad has envisaged sailing into as long as he's dreamt of sailing home to Australia. Soon we were pulling up to the [...]

5 days, 22 hours and 30mins to go!!

06 August 2007 | On dry land!!
Brad
Here is a brief admin update to the Crew.

We picked up the "OC Tracker" (satellite transponder) and sorted out the various other admin points on Saturday and can now confirm we are fully endorsed and have the green light from the RORC!!! A big thanks to Chris and in particular his neighbor for providing last minute proof of ISAF qualifications!!

We've replaced the 2nd baton and the 1st reef's fwd block, fitted a dyneema topping lift which is lead aft to the cock pit so reefing can be done from the cockpit (except for the 3rd that still requires the strop attachment).

We've added a mast head dyneema spinnaker halyard that can now be used as a secondary headsail halyard (a lesson from last week!). We've replaced the lazy jacks and configured them so they can be dropped to the boom and strapped out of the way (another lesson from last week!!).

We've taken delivery of our trysail and 5 sqm storm jib to complement the 10 sqm (which has been relegated to heavy weather status!!). The trysail track has also been fitted, so GHOST is looking more and more like a race ready yacht. I just wish we had a bigger headsail! (that is a phrase you'll hear a lot in the next 10 days!!) Note I had intended to surprise everyone with a new 130% Kevlar Genoa and tracks to match, the dealer had one in stock by chance but the damn thing was already sold. Now it's become a sore point of mine!!

The Plan:
- Come down whenever you like on Friday or Saturday, but please let us know when to expect you. For those that are around we might head up to the Jolly Sailor on Friday evening!!!

- Saturday, 11am champagne & canaps send-off party starting on the GHOST and moving to the Ketch Rigger at 1230 for lunch at your discretion (we have an area booked) Can you confirm who will be there, we have:
Brad & Kat, plus Mum and Dad, John and Ismay.
JP & Laura, plus JP's Mum
Brendan, plus Mum and Sister
Stuart and Su
Chris
Clark.

Then Brad & Stuart are heading off for the 4pm briefing. The Crew will have a briefing on Brad and Stuart's return then off to bed early!

- Sunday - the big day, 11am start, so plan to leave the marina at 9am.

Fingers crossed we arrive in Plymouth some time between 1800 Thursday the 16th and 0600 Friday the 17th.

- Friday 17th - there is a prize giving party in Plymouth, so far we have tickets reserved for all of us plus: Su & Susan. Please let us know by the end of today if we need any more tickets as this party, while informal (dress code is smelly crew kit), is invitation only!

If you want to pass on details to friends & family - the Fastnet link showing the tracking is: http://fastnet.rorc.org/info.asp. Note: you should be able to see real-time progress, just look to the back of the fleet for the yacht with the undersized headsail!!!

See you all soon!
Brad and Kat
