It's Official

It's a sad but good thing, we no longer own GHOST. She is now owned by an architect in Sydney who has plans of sailing the South Pacific once again.

Reality bites!!

It's been a while since we updated the blog. Apologies for that but we've been busy fighting off the onslaught of reality, not really wanting to admit it's over! After arriving it was the welcome party in Sydney, followed by a hectic week of moving ALL our personal stuff off GHOST. On a side note, it [...]

GHOST for sale!

Well it's sad news but GHOST is now officially up for sale!

28 November 2010 | Sydney Harbour, Australia

Welcome to Sydney GHOST

Well it was a brilliantly sunny day as we set off from Pittwater in GHOST, entering the Sydney heads about lunchtime. It was a pretty emotional sail through this iconic harbour which Brad has envisaged sailing into as long as he's dreamt of sailing home to Australia. Soon we were pulling up to the [...]

Wee update

20 June 2009 | Lakka, Paxos, Greece
Brad
It's been a while since the last blog so an update is in order. Fiskardho was lovely and we spent a little time taking some lines ashore for some charter boats and double handers. Being only two we know that taking lines ashore in a cross wind can present its challenges so we offer to make life easier for others making their line off on the shore (around a tree or rock) and then taking it back out to meet them as they finish laying their anchor. In this case our efforts were rewarded substantially as the English crew of one boat gave us all their admiralty charts and cruising guide for Croatia!! Our next stop. Thanks again guys if you read this. They had done Croatia over many years and were moving on to the Greek islands and Turkey.

Next stop was Frikes on Ithaca, widely believed to be the home of Homers, Odysseus, but now home to a shed load of Greek Aussie expats. They were either born here or there to Greek folks and are now living the dream in this idyllic location, which is seriously short of a good internet connection...man we rely on it these days, not sure we can cross an ocean without wifi hotspots!! We anchored around the corner after several attempts to be happy with our spot alongside the wall in town. We even donned the mask and snorkels to assess our satisfaction. Alas the ballasting from the wall was only 30 odd centimetres from the keel and with the potential for ferry swell it wasn't worth a sleepless night. If you're not going to sleep might as well be from an over sight when reading a weather forecast! We anchored up in a beautiful bay, which we had to ourselves but failed to notice the slight winds from the SE on the forecast. While not in any danger it did mean we had a restless nights kip due to the slight swell.

Onto Meganisi, wow lovely spot. This Ionian islands are great and, in our humble opinion, the best part of Greece. Loads of bays, loads of anchorages, loads of boats but you can find your privacy and really enjoy this special part of the world. Today we came through the Levkas canal, a dredged 6m canal that splits the salt marshes and separates Levkas from the main land. A the northern end we had to wait 30mins for the swing bridge to open. Then it was a motor, get the kite up, motor, get the headsail out, motor, get the kite up, motor, chat to Lee on the phone, kind of "sail". Now we are in Lakka, a bay on Paxos that has the most beautiful water. 4-5 metres deep over white sand so the water is that brilliant aqua colour. We might hang here for an extra day before heading on to Corfu.
