It's Official

It's a sad but good thing, we no longer own GHOST. She is now owned by an architect in Sydney who has plans of sailing the South Pacific once again.

Reality bites!!

It's been a while since we updated the blog. Apologies for that but we've been busy fighting off the onslaught of reality, not really wanting to admit it's over! After arriving it was the welcome party in Sydney, followed by a hectic week of moving ALL our personal stuff off GHOST. On a side note, it [...]

GHOST for sale!

Well it's sad news but GHOST is now officially up for sale!

Welcome to Sydney GHOST

Well it was a brilliantly sunny day as we set off from Pittwater in GHOST, entering the Sydney heads about lunchtime. It was a pretty emotional sail through this iconic harbour which Brad has envisaged sailing into as long as he's dreamt of sailing home to Australia. Soon we were pulling up to the [...]

Bye bye Croatia

12 July 2009 | Mid Adriatic
Brad
Well we have waved goodbye to Croatia. We weighed anchor early, about 530ish and motored out the small islands around the eastern end of Korcula and out towards the Adriatic. The wind built from the north east allowing for a full main and jib pushing us along in the right direction at over 8 knots. By lunch time though this eased a little and came right from behind so we put the jib away and put two reefs in the main to help stop it flogging while we motored. After an hours rest each we put the kite up and sailed with it most of the afternoon get as much as 10.7 knots out of it as the wind built.

Even better though was a visit from a pod of dolphins. There is not much better than sailing along under kite with dolphins playing in the bow wave! One even did some "seaworldesq" moves jumping straight up out of the water and rotating to land on its back. Did this one about 4 times!!

Finally when it got to 20kns we put the kite away and are now sailing along nicely albeit with a bit of rolly polly action as the wind has been blowing from the NW most of the day now and heaped a bit of sea up with it. Forecast is for this to die down a little around mid night so based on this we should be getting into Otranto by mid morning. And so will begin our Italian exploits.
