It's Official

It's a sad but good thing, we no longer own GHOST. She is now owned by an architect in Sydney who has plans of sailing the South Pacific once again.

Reality bites!!

It's been a while since we updated the blog. Apologies for that but we've been busy fighting off the onslaught of reality, not really wanting to admit it's over! After arriving it was the welcome party in Sydney, followed by a hectic week of moving ALL our personal stuff off GHOST. On a side note, it [...]

GHOST for sale!

Well it's sad news but GHOST is now officially up for sale!

28 November 2010 | Sydney Harbour, Australia

Welcome to Sydney GHOST

Well it was a brilliantly sunny day as we set off from Pittwater in GHOST, entering the Sydney heads about lunchtime. It was a pretty emotional sail through this iconic harbour which Brad has envisaged sailing into as long as he's dreamt of sailing home to Australia. Soon we were pulling up to the [...]

Tahiti and the sailing regatta

18 June 2010 | Papeete, Tahiti
Kat
We left Rangiroa on the 11th June making the most of the good weather for the crossing to Tahiti. Off the 200nm we managed to sail almost half way so were happy with that and the whole trip was very calm. We finally anchored next to Taina marina in Tahiti in the afternoon of the 13th.

Jay knew some of the crew of Silandra and Umataloo from the Galapagos and we also met up with Delos and Bubbles from Rangiroa so we know lots of people to party with. On the first night we had a pot luck dock party and everyone brought amazing food - yum, but of course we drank too much rum, in fact as a measure of that the boys took the dingy to get MaccyD's for breakfast, and it's only a 500m walk..... Then the following night there was a jazz band on one of the pontoons with free beer (a big deal when it is US$7 per pint here!) so we had a great free party and one guy in the audience got carried away and gave us a strip show that was particularly enjoyed by all the ladies in the audience.

Then the Tahiti rendezvous regatta started and because strong winds were forecast we decided to leave GHOST in the marina (so as not to tempt fate before the rigging is fixed) as we were invited to join Delos for their trip. Basically around 70 boats cross from Tahiti to nearby Moorea which is only 20nm away and there are parties before and after! Entry was free and the food is reasonably priced (for once) and you even get a free t-shirt as it's heavily sponsored by the local tourist board and marinas. Delos (sailed by a couple called Brian and Erin and Brian's brother Brady) are from Seattle and sail an Amel 54 and with the strong winds during the race they really got the boat moving and we finished 7th! Of course we celebrated the result until well into the early hours....thanks Delos it was a really fantastic weekend and I'm not sure I'll ever be able to forget the traditional Tahitian lunch (not so good).

After the regatta we spend a few days enjoying the lovely anchorage in Moorea before heading back to the marina to see GHOST again. Jay had gone kitesurfing for a few days with a friend on another boat so we just chilled out and enjoyed Tahiti for a bit.
