1345 EDT....just passed over the 40th meridian. Winds have picked up a bit and making about 8.5kts over the bottom. Very comfortable.
In 1994, while en-route from the Canary Islands to St. Lucia, Dean threw an empty wine bottle overboard with a message in it. Approximately a year later he received a letter from a man on Cat Island, Bahamas telling him that he had found it. The message had traveled approximately 2200 miles. I've included a photo of Ted, John's stepson, preparing to do same with one of our emptied wine bottles. We've included all of our email addresses and await your response with baited breath.
Ted brings tremendous value to our crew. Several years ago, with his wife and son, and visiting friends, he sailed his own 47 ft catamaran from Florida to California via Fiji. He actually knows how to use the sextant, so we're secure should all of our electronics fail. Unlikely, we have a lot of electronics.
Speaking of wine bottles, you may be wondering if we drink out here, and if so, how much. We do, but not much. We usually open a bottle of wine for dinner and that allows for about one glass each. Occassionally, we'll have a cocktail or a beer, but that's the extent of it. Without saying it, everyone is acutely aware that at any moment you may have to respond to a problem with your full attention and all faculties. When we get to Scotland that could change. Anyone for single malt?
Still keeping an eye on the low pressure system. It looks lke we might get to taste winds in the 30's again.
Stay tuned.
