Maine to Scotland - Day #15/16

Another pleasant night except for the slow speed. Feast or famine. Light air makes for good sleeping if there is enough to keep you moving, but not good for clipping off miles. Currently, winds are 12 kts from the SW, and we are making 5.2 kts over the ground with jib poled out and the Code 0 flying (large, light material headsail). Sun is out above partly cloudy skies, and seas are calm. It's is 60 F and the water temp is 55F. For the first time it is comfortable outside with only a sweater.
I'm including a photo of Peter doing his exercises on the foredeck. He's the only one that even comes close to possessing the energy that John does. So far today, have put up the pole, the Code 0, changed the oil and fuel filters, adjusted the lifelines, varnished a scuffed patch on the hand rail, and started the laundry....and it's only 1100 hours here!! I'm exhausted watching him.
We're closing on our destination, and I can feel my thoughts shifting to seeing my wife and friends and exploring Scotland. Work has not managed to break through my mental barricade...except for this blog moment. I miss our dog, Boz, and carry a bit of guilt for leaving him so long. It will be a grand reunion. I also look forward to my reunion with my own boat, Glory Days. She's not as big or sophisticated as Wiki Wiki, but she's been as loyal to me as my dog, and has forgiven every unintentional attempt I've made to break her in some way. This adventure has raised my sailing threshold.....again, and I look forward to more new sunrises and sunsets on watery horizons.
Stay tuned.
