Towards the Leeward Islands

08 February 2014 | Dominica
Delinquency.
Yes, I have been a bit slow on the updates. And here is the reason why. I have no idea where time has gone. We've been diving a lot, having a good time and drinking far too much. I've enjoyed it all.
I cleared out of Carriacou and headed across to Union Island, SVG, to check in. We were sailing with Fair Winds and Libertad. Then off to the Tobago Cays. The wind was up quite considerably the next morning, so we decided not to hang around, but to head to Saline Bay, Mayreau. It's a pretty bay with good holding, and good reef on either point. Lobster!
We dived loads of lobsters here and ended up spending about 10 days having fun. We also caught a few squid. The calamari went down very well.

From there it was up to Bequia where Jacky and Ron, on Desperado, joined us. We anchored in Princess Margaret Bay. A great Bbq was had, on the beach, with Fair Winds, Desperado ,Libertad and Katelyn, whom I had met in Tobago.
After a couple of days there, the northerly swell was rolling us a bit too much, so we re anchored, up north, in Port Elizabeth. The fishing was quite productive in the anchorage, as was the lobstering. Enough said.
Two weeks later, we sailed out of Bequia, north to the island of St. Vincent. Desperado had been to Cumberland Bay before and suggested the we stop there for a night or two. It's a deep bay so we tied up, stern to the shore, with our anchor in about 50' of water. The following day, Christmas Eve, we went out looking for lobsters and got about 18, that we kept for Christmas Day. That evening we went ashore, for drinks and dinner, to Joseph's restaurant. Shortly after arriving it started raining. Hard! And did it come down? We watched it for a while and then thought it best to head back to the boats. Luckily we did. The river, flowing into the small bay came down with a roar, bringing trees, boulders, motor cars, propane tanks and dead and drowning animals with it. If we had left 20 minutes later, we wouldn't have been able to get back to the boats. The bay was covered with moving debris. The storm raged and the lightening display was continuous.
The following morning, we had a couple of dead animals around the boats, but a lot of it was being taken out by the current. The locals, along the shoreline, were rescuing pigs and tethering them to posts. Listening to the local news, there were landslides, with about 7 people dead. Very sad indeed. Christmas Day was a subdued affair ashore. We had a great dinner aboard Desperado with Terry and Kathi from Libertad.
Christmas morning, friends arrived aboard a boat they had chartered. It was great to catch up with Chris and Tony Crews, and their friends.
From there it was across the St. Vincent channel, to Marigot, on St. Vincent. Very touristy type of place. We overnighted here and then pushed on up to Rodney Bay.
