By Capts. Dave and Desiree
People probably often wonder what "we do all day on the boat." We are living in our home and it is an environment that is constantly challenged even on a good day. Of course, you can all guess who is the chief engineer on board, McGiver Dave. His first mate has improved her technical ingenuity, and the rest of the crew is learning daily. Yet, the success of the Gone Native journey truly rests on Dave's shoulders.
So it is a pleasure to see Dave enjoy the moments reading one of his favorite childhood books, Tunnel in the Sky, by Robert Heinlein, to Ryan and Wesley. The book was written in 1955 and like a Jules Vern tale. has predominately past the test of time. The twins ask Dave to read the book whenever he has a spare moment, and he puts on an obvious satisfying smile.
Whenever Dave is not rewiring the boat, fixing a bilge, tweaking the Gone Native one more notch, or exploring more of the Turkish coast, he gets cozy in the cockpit with his two boys and reads Tunnel in the Sky.
His next Robert Heinlein book he plans to read to Wes and Ryan is Time for the Stars, in which the protagonists are identical twins!
