From Cala De San Pedro To Mazarron
10 August 2005 | Mazarron
Capt. Desiree
We left at 8:30AM and headed up the coast. We knew it was a fairly windless day as we weren't going more that 4 knots with the engine-of course, the anneometer (wind meter) was still not working and continues to stump Dave. It was a perfect day for Dave to make crepes and bacon. Dad had promised Ryan and Wesley crepes if they were practicing their Harry Potter challenge spelling words (found in the chapter they had recently read).
It was a much bigger homework day than a wind day. We did our usual drills with the sails, but they never did stay up for any significant length of time. Our speed varied from 3-5knots, but most with motor assist. However, we were able to keep the motors off long enough to play "Catching the Whale." (See crew's entry for details of the game.) We then saw real pilot whales off our starboard. With the lack of wind, we did have to shorten our goal and entered a cala in Mazarron, but did manage to go 40 nautical miles.
After we anchored, we swam to shore while Dave fixed the zipper of the main sail bag (thank-you, Dave). I made an awesome one pot rice, chicken, beans, onion, tomato meal. For those who know me well, I've cooked more neat, tasty creations on the boat than I have at any point in my life. We crashed early (before midnight) in an attempt for an early departure the next day.
