Have I said It’s a Small World?

We had arrived from Nicaragua, settling in for a few days of catching up in Huatulco, Mexico. We were cleaning up after our salt drenching crossing, and a couple approached us. They said we had met years ago, and we had.
We had met Eric and Christi Grab at Ventura Yacht Club in April, 2007. They had purchased their Nordhavn 43, and were preparing for a circumnavigation. They lived in San Diego, and were keeping their boat in Ensenada. There they met Diane and Stan Heirshberg, who were working on their boat in preparation to go cruising as well.
One evening Diane and Stan brought up Eric and Christi for Friday night dinner at the Ventura Yacht Club. We sat next to them, and after my "vast" cruising experience over the last two years, I remember talking Christi's ear off for practical "tips" that I had acquired on the learning curve of cruising. Well, apparently she took my words to heart.
So there they were on our boat after a two-year circumnavigation. Wow! That's moving. Certainly one moves faster in a motor vessel, but still that is a lot of miles to cover in two years. We actually had heard their name on the radio while we were in Bahia San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua, but the connection did not click. That afternoon we could not speak fast enough to share our stories, so we decided to reconvene in the evening in the nearby town, La Crucerita, for dinner.
We had a wonderful time that evening, and could not believe we were on the same schedule to make it home the beginning of May, for them, San Diego. We would try to buddy boat for a while, although our times would have to be adjusted for our slightly slower speed. If nothing else, we have radios and email to keep in touch up the coast.
