Pacific Crossing

12 May 2010 | Fatu Hiva, Marquesas
We made it!!! It took us 22 days, but we are proud of our accomplishment of our Pacific crossing of 3000 miles. We averaged between 120-145 miles a day, but the seas were lumpy like a washing machine the whole way. We did have wind most of the way, and we were grateful for our wind vane (auto pilot) which steered more than 90% of the time and kept us on course. We also caught 2 mahi mahi, one which weighed 20lbs, measured 4ft long, and made for some great sushi meals, yum!

We made landfall on May 8th in the southern island of Fatu Hiva in the Marquesas. Here, we've spent more than a week decompressing from the tiring trip, enjoying the treat of sleeping thru the night and not having to get up for a night watch shift. We plan to spend a few weeks here enjoying the Marquesas, the beauty of these lush, green garden islands before moving on to the Tuomotus, a chain of atolls. We'll post our Marquesas report before we move on. Big hugs, Kelita & Robert.
