US man crosses Atlantic Ocean by rowboat on 4th attempt

NEW YORK -Victor Mooney, 48, of Queens and The Spirit of Malabo, a twenty-four foot Brazilian custom made ocean rowboat has passed the longitude [59.29W], which marks the successful crossing of the Atlantic Ocean Saturday morning. Mooney is expected to reach Tortola, British Virgin Islands within two weeks for a resupply before continuing to New York.

Mooney departed Maspolamas, Gran Canaria, off the coast of Africa on February 19. Mooney's journey, in honor of his brother who died of AIDS 1983, is designed to encourage voluntary HIV testing and raise funds for AIDS.
