Victor Mooney of Flushing, Queens [New York] arrived in Saint-Martin early this morning. With opposing local currents, The Spirit of Malabo, a twenty four foot ocean rowing vessel, was towed roughly twenty miles from sea, while Mr. Mooney was aboard a Saint-Martin Search and Rescue vessel. He was transported to Centre Hospitalier De Saint-Martin for evaluation and is being discharged.

Mr. Mooney has lost over 80 pounds during his transatlantic rowing journey from Las Palmas, Canary Islands, which began February 19. He will get some needed rest, then continue to the British Virgin Islands as planned. Mr. Mooney also survived a shark attack that punctured his boat, but allowed him to continue.

His mission is to encourarge voluntary HIV testing in honor of his brother who died from AIDS in 1983. Mr. Mooney has a second brother living with HIV. The United States of America and other countries mark HIV Testing Day today as a tool to end the AIDS epidemic around the world.
