Victor Mooney of Queens, New York approached the British Virgin Islands (BVI) en route to New York from the coast of Africa. On August 20th, at approximately 9:30 a.m. ET, Victor Mooney, aboard The Spirit of Malabo, alerted his team of his location at approximately 16 nautical miles from the coast of BVI. Mooney sought towing assistance on arrival into the Scrub Island Resort, Spa & Marina due to a rapidly developing tropical storm that is expected to strike in the next day or so.
Mooney has been welcomed by government officials and the BVI Tourism Board upon his arrival to Scrub Island Resort, Spa & Marina where he will rest and replenish supplies before a grueling journey to New York. Mooney will spend his time in the British Virgin Islands meeting with several officials to advocate for AIDS awareness and voluntary HIV testing.
