US rower bets with Atlantic City to fight against AIDS

Victor Mooney of Queens, New York and the Spirit of Malabo arrived at Farley State Marina next to Golden Nugget Hotel & Casino last Thursday. Mr. Mooney is in need of a replacement life raft and some other safety protocols before he departs later this week to New York's Brooklyn Bridge.

Mr. Mooney successfully rowed across the Atlantic Ocean from the coast Africa on his fourth attempt. He battled sharks, sleep deprivation, eight-pound weight loss and piracy.

His mission is in memory of all those that died of AIDS, which includes his brother and to encourage HIV testing. Another sibling is battling the disease. The rowboat is slated to be donated to the United Nations as a symbol for the continued fight against HIV/AIDS.
