Back in Hopetown
22 December 2011 | Elbow Cay, Abacos, Bahamas
sunny!
We sailed back to Hopetown yesterday and plan to spend Christmas and New Years here on a mooring ball.
All of the paperwork has been signed and delivered, so now begins the long (and hopefully not painful) process of being allowed to purchase land in the Bahamas. With a total population of approximately 250,000 people, it's surprising how bureaucratic things are with the need for permits, financial statements, banking references, personal references, etc.etc.etc.
Hopefully it can be completed within the next 3 months.
The recently fixed generator has revealed an interesting problem with my 12V battery bank on board the boat. I have always relied upon a xantrax Link 1000 instrument to tell me how much power (amps) was going into and out of the batteries, and also indicate when the batteries were fully charged. Well, I discovered that the instrument is not accurate, and with the help of the genset, I was able to put another 300Ah of energy into 700Ah of battery power on board. For the future I will use a hydrometer to determine battery condition and not rely upon any other instruments.
Today will be spent in search of lobsters with my new bathyscope to help discover their preferred locations. I'm looking forward to dinner!
