This is the nutmeg tree. Grenada produces the second most nutmeg in the world, second only to Indonesia. Hurricane Ivan destroyed the vast amount of nutmeg trees on the Island and it was uncertain for a few years if this industry would ever recover. It slowly is and the lush trees are everywhere. Notice that the fruit has a split in it. When it actually begins to come apart the nutmeg is ready for harvesting.
