Adrift on Roundout Creek
14 October 2010 | Kingston, NY
Arrived at Roundout Creek and was proceeding to Kingston City Marina where the SSB installer was going to meet us. Just after the bridge, we lost forward and reverse again! That darn key way came off the coupling again! We thought it was fixed at the last haul out! So now, we are adrift, calling on the radio, no response. Finally, we got a bass fisherman's attention and he took a line to shore and some people pulled us in. We docked and Greg made a quick repair and we moved to a visitor dock and when in reverse it backed out again. However, we were able to secure the dock lines and ok for the moment. Later, about 10PM Greg awoke and heard water. We had an inch of water in v-berth. Running bilges, monitoring all night long. Think problem was full water tank, full fuel tank, causing water to siphon in combined with leaking drive shaft packing. We are keeping a close eye on it.
