Slushing Along
08 December 2010 | Camden, NC
We awoke to frost inside the cabin, the temperature read 26 degrees, and the generator was slow to start. Dick Bartholamey would call this breath weather. Finally, we could make coffee and I put away the dishes with icicles on them. Took Newton for a quick walk and Greg started the engine. Called the bridge tender to open the pontoon bridge and we were off. At least the sun was shinning and the winds were only about 10 mph. Arrived at the South Mills Bridge at about 11 am and the tender prepared the locks and opened the bridge. After we arrived on the Pasquotank R , it was still very scenic , cold and quiet. Bird life was abundant, wish Paul Petri was with us to help identify them and appreciate them. We needed fuel so we stopped at Lamb's Marina, 3.5 mi N of Elizabeth City, NC. We decided to stay the night at only $35 with electricty and we can be toasty warm all night long!
