35 Miles in Under 6 Hours
16 January 2011 | Charleston, SC
Last night at low tide we were sitting on the bottom of Jeremy Creek at the dock in McClellanville! Even though the village was unique the docks left a lot to be desired, and the only place to stop from Georgeown to Charleston. I awoke a little before 7AM and the alarm hadn't gone off at 6 like we set it. We found the breaker at the dock had tripped and the power was off. We needed to leave by 8 AM in order to leave with enough water underneath us. Just before we set off(a little after 8) I saw 3 dolphins frolicking in the creek. A good omen! The frost was still heavy on the deck as we set off on the ICW. We had moments when the current was with us and against us which is typical in this lowland marsh area. We again saw several pairs of dolphins, but I think they are camera shy. About 5 hrs from when we left, we approached the Ben Sawyer Swing Bridge (near Isle of Palms) to ask for a one o'clock opening (this bridge only opens on the hour) A little after that we were in Charleson Harbor approaching the grand city of Charleston. We docked at the Charleston Maritime Center and are looking forward to sleeping in on Monday morning.
