Cocoa is Not as Sweet as it Sounds

25 February 2011 | Cocoa Beach, FL
We made a short hop here from Titusville (apx 20 mi) and thought we'd enjoy going ashore and seeing the sites. The wind was on our nose at 15 - 25 kt with gusts to 30 kt, but the temperature was 74 and when we arrived 81. We enjoyed the sunshine, saw dolphins, but have yet to see a manatee. Locals are less accomodating to cruisers, in stark contrast to every other community we've come across on our trip. After docking at the dinghy dock, signs were posted no dogs allowed in the park. How are you supposed to get your dog to land without walking ten feet through the park? The park is the dinghy dock and a boat ramp. Had an unfortunate incident after our dinghy lost power and we drifted toward a locally anchored boat. Enough said.
We have to backtrack to yesterday's Discovery shuttle launch. It was so awesome! It brought tears to my eyes. We are so glad we were fortunate to witness this inspiring moment.
