Last Canal Lock
22 July 2015 | Castets-en-Dorthe
DavidH hot and sunny
Typical, despite some niggles with excessive weed slowing us down during the last dozen or so miles after Fontans, we had no hold-ups at all, all the locks working as they should, until that is, we got to the very last actual canal lock at Castets-en-Dorthe.
To our dismay there were two VNF vans there, engineers swarming all over the control cabin and a boat (full of Spanish folk) already in the lock going nowhere. The only saving grace was that we were able to park under the bridge immediately before the lock, out of the sun, in a nice cooling breeze.
The canal was definitely not willing to let us go, however after about ½ an hour the guys got it working long enough for us to escape to the sea lock, a relief as we had an exit time booked which was fast approaching; time and tide, time and tide.......
