Huahine

Sailed from Raiatea to Huahine Friday. We like the island so much we're staying an extra day. We leave tomorrow for Hawaii!

Ready to depart

We moved the boat to town and are tied up to a dock. We depart tomorrow.

Waiting game, soon to end

After several days of rain, today was warm and sunny. Some issues on the boat have been resolved and departure day is close.

Our temporary home

Stormy afternoon, with considerable rain, brisk winds, and some thunder. Lynn and I went to the airport to retrieve his lost bags which were supposed to arrive 2 days ago. Better late than never! So now we have a spinnaker, lots of tools and spare parts, and peace of mind.

Settling in

After a long trip and several sleepless nights, we reached the boat on the 4th. We have spent the last 24 hours getting organized. Cell reception is okay, but local wi-fi is expensive and slooooooow!

We should have something posted by Friday, and will try to post every day. Thanks!! And please pray for safety and crew compatibility.

Once we get going, I will no longer be able to post on this blog; instead, please follow our journey at

For that we use a satellite phone, which also provides email and weather forecasts!

Bye for now.

Some minor repairs are needed but the CNI boat yard doesn't open til Monday, so we'll be here a few more days. "Here"- the CNI boat basin - isn't bad at all!
See pics.

I finally managed to access the Internet via a very slow and unreliable wi-fi. When we cast off, we'll communicate via satellite phone, twice a day -- 9am and 3pm. There will be limited email as well as the blog to enable us stay connected to the rest of our world.

Rainy!

We hope to depart early next week. Two important luggage pieces (containing tools and parts) just arrived this afternoon.

Very wet today, but the ocean is delightful and beckons, so I have "had to" swim several times each day.

More soon...
