Real life
17 May 2010
I hate it when real life interferes with my sailing plans. Still, it's all for the best - I hope.
At the forefront of my mind right now: moving house. Second time in under a year. You don't do that for fun, I can tell you.
Changing jobs - also second time in under a year. At least it'll put an end to the commute from hell. Dunstable-Brussels. Not for the faint-hearted and certainly not recommended. If everything works out, it'll be the last job I'll ever have or need. And, it should leave me plenty of sailing time.
Boat: checked on Guapa last Thursday. Engine just went in. Should be sitting snugly as I write this. Shaft, prop and engine all ready to be married. Old standing rigging taken away today (or should be), new ready by tomorrow.
Surveyor booked for next Monday. And that should have been it: launch and trip to Ostend. Alas, 'real life' has screwed it up for us. We'll make up for it - and then some - from the end of June.
Must say, I'm very impressed with the way the yard have handled the whole project. I would hesitate to recommend them or entrust them with any future work (small items though).
So, there we are. Nearly ready to go. The fact that the weather's been crap so far is more than a small consolation.
2010: the best is yet to come.
