Ex-hole
14 June 2010 | Ipswich
Final trip up to the boat - before launch. I will be away for work (such a drag) for a few weeks, so this was my final chance to check on the old girl before she's launched.
The hole is now an ex-hole. All patched up and ready for it's lick of Coppercoat. The engine exhaust problem is about to be fixed - the 'missing link' has arrived. VHF antenna to be rewired and mast electrics checked. Autopilot rudder feedback to be reconnected. Final word with the yard foreman. He'll make sure everyone's singing from the same hymn sheet. Nearly all there.
Sail loft also to sort sprayhood before launch. Met up with them at the yard. They know and understand what I want. Another tick in the box.
Launch on the 28th - engine trails 29th and 30th - July 1st enter stage left: me - pay yard for hopefully a job well done and get ready for sea - July 2nd a.m. rigging tuned - July 2nd p.m. start sailing.
After what seems an eternity, being able to stick dates on events seems unreal. After so many false dawns, I really think that this is it.
Next time I will lay eyes on her, she'll be afloat. And not before time, I was getting tired of seeing her on the hard. This is not what we bought her for.
Another landmark: final mortgage payment this month. She will now be all fixed and all ours.
I love it when a plan comes together - the champagne's already on ice.
