Up and down
10 March 2011 | River Orwell
What's up? Everything that should be. What have we been doing the past few weeks? Nothing much. A couple of daysails up and down the Orwell – Landguard and back. About as much as you can expect and/or hope for this time of year.
Weather quite varied; ranging from a stiff breeze in bitter cold over foggy with less than no wind to just the perfect winter sail.
Crew of various composition too: just my eldest, wife and youngest and for only the second time in five years some non family 'crew'. The only constant here was Steps, who's turning into a right proper sea-dog.
So, what's on the horizon? Some work (work: the curse of the sailing class), a celebration trip to Paris (20th wedding anniversary) and new sails when we return.
The last trip pretty much confirmed it, our sails have had their time. We'll be keeping the genoa as a spare, but the main is only fit for the bin. The boat makeover is in it's final stages. The to-do list is getting shorter all the time.
Easter Holiday not far off too. This means homemade crew readily available, though they don't know it yet. All we need now is for the weather to cooperate.
And, we'll be making Guapa liveable again. We haven't lived aboard in a long time, but this is about to change. Victuals, bedding, etc... it's all about to go back aboard. And the dehumidifier can look forward to another 6 months in the attic.
Sailing wise, we're coming out of hibernation and life's pretty good to us right now.
