Travel to Tashmoo Lake

We departed Marblehead and motor sailed to Plymouth, MA. As we were sailing past Boston and down the coast, we couldn't help but notice the haze. Then, when we were anchoring, we saw this incredible SUN. This is not your typical "red sky at night, as sailor's delight". It looked more like a rising full [...]

Marblehead

As I mentioned, Marblehead has become one of our favorite cruising destinations this year. We arrived Saturday) of their big "Race Week". We knew it was going to be crowded and we also new that it was going to be rainy on Sunday. So, we dropped the DINGHY in the water, mounted the engine, changed our [...]

Isle of Shoals

So, we left Maine today (sniff). We spent our last night in Isle of Shoals. It's a wonderful little atoll about 10 miles off the coast. A couple of the islands are in Maine and a couple of the islands are in NEW HAMPSHIRE!

This Ole Boat

Old is a relative term. Twenty eight years old doesn't sound too bad by my standards, but for a sailboat that has spent its 28 years in the corrosive environment of salt water, 28 years is older than dirt! Everything metallic (think engine, transmission, mast, cooktop, oven etc, etc) is subject to corrosion [...]

Movin' On...finally

25 May 2017
Well, we arrived at Carolina Beach on Saturday, May 20, looking forward to a nice 1-2 day visit with a sailing buddy from 33 years ago, MC and her husband, Kirk. We learned, almost immediately that the weather was turning bleak (at best) for the following 4-5 days. MC and Kirk very graciously opened up their beautiful home to us and we had a splendid hiatus/vacation/party! We thoroughly enjoyed the time there and the opportunity to be with our special friends and meet their family and many friends (and drive their luxury golf cart!). Thank you so much.

We left today, after lunch (I gained 5 lbs while there!) for Wrightsville Beach. What a dreadful motor up the ICW! It was windy (gusts up to 40 MPH), rainy and very shallow. Thank goodness it was a short day! And thank goodness that the sun came out shortly after we anchored. We met a nice cruising couple in the anchorage who are also headed up to New England. We're both heading out into the Atlantic Ocean tomorrow for a 65 mile sail to Beaufort, NC. It should be about a 10-12 hour day under favorable conditions.

We had a wonderful happy hour in our cockpit watching the junior sailors zip around the anchorage in the sunfish/laser class boats. It appeared that they were trying to get as close as possible to our boat. That was fine with us as we would toast them with our vodka tonics (TWO ice cubes per glass) between spoonfuls of gumbo. Great day!
