We are currently on our fourth leg of our maiden journey to our home port in Lahaina, Maui. This journey is 4417 nm from San Cristobal, Galapagos, Ecuador to Lahaina, Maui.
Our first leg was from North Caroloina to Fort Lauderdale from August 2008 - Dec 2008 where we learned to sail our boat, [...]
Hana Hou.
Our second leg was from Ft. Lauderdale through the crystal clear and shallow water the Bahamas, exciting sailing through Turks and Caicos, St. Martin, British Virgin Isands, to the South American islands and Coast including Bonnaire, Aruba, Colombia and Panama. Since both our computers died on the same day outside of Panama, our blog stopped in Bonnaire. I hope to catch you all up with our adventure.
We had four additional crew joined us in Panama as our line handlers through the Canal. Annie flew in from Aspen, Colorado was our ever cheerful cheerleader. Bunt and Chris flew all the way from Maui to help us sail to San Cristobal, Galapagos. We had an exciting time crossing the incredible human created waterway connecting the Caribbean water with the Pacific Ocean. We were tied between two monohulls. One was the Hawke of Tuonela captianed by the writer Webb Chiles. You can read about his journey on www.inthepresentsea.com. Annie left us in Panama City while Chris and Bunt accompanied us to San Cristobal. We all called it quit after we arrived in San Cristobal. Chris was seasick the entire journey even with continued seasick medications. Bunt had diarhea from San Cristobal's water. Dan was home sick and I was tired and exhausted from sea sickness and the long journey.
After a summer rest, Dan and I returned with a hired captain, Bob Schoonmaker to sail to Tahiti for our third leg. This leg was cut short since I had severe migrain headadge that won't go away. Dan told me that we can turn back since it is not an endurant test. It was supposed to be fun. So, we returned back to our new second home in friendly San Cristobal where we are now famous. the whole town was happy to sea us to receive more greenback.
The fourth leg is about to begin with a new crew. Third time is a charm. This will be our third attempt to cross the Pacific Ocean. Captain Tom, a catamaran captain in Maui and Dennis, who single handedy had sailed to Tahiti twenty years ago before all the new technologies will join our fearless Captain Dan to cross the Pacific Ocean to Maui. I will sit this last leg out, but will be the ground support with weather reports and route planning. I will update you with their exciting journey in this blog.
