Sandy Hook to Cape May

23 September 2016 | Cape May
Sunny, Light Winds 0-5K W.
Our two day stay in Sandy Hook, NJ was very pleasant. We had a chance to take a nice 4 mile run on a bike trail along the shore line, we picked up some fresh vegetables and bread at the grocery store and did some laundry. Unfortunately, my iPhone was in with the laundry and is now dead for good. Oh well, now I have an excuse to buy a new and better version.

We left Sandy Hook at 11:45 AM and headed out onto the Atlantic for a 19 hour passage to Cape May inlet. During the night about 12 hours into our passage, our autopilot decided it was time to pack it in. So this meant we had to steer manually for the remaining eight hours of our trip. Luckily the wind and waves were In our favor making the steering manageable. It was a beautiful moon lit sky with light winds from behind.

We arrived at Cape May at 6:00 AM and slowly entered the inlet as the daylight began to appear. Once we found the perfect anchoring spot, in front of the Coast Guard station, we took a well deserved nap. Ron spent the next hour or so replacing the linear drive on the auto pilot. After taking a shower, we headed to shore and had a fantastic dinner at The Lobster House. This restaurant was recommend by our good friends Jerry and Karen from Persephone. After dinner we did some exploring in our dingy and took some nice pictures of boats and houses on the water. While exploring we noticed a sailboat from Clayton, NY, so we stopped and introduced ourselves. We had a nice visit with them and hope to see them again on our trip south.

We pulled up the anchor at 6:30 this morning and are continuing our way to Annapolis where we will stay for the duration of the boat show. It sure is nice to have the autopilot working again.
