Tahaa, French Plolynesia
21 June 2012
It was a pleasant sail over to Raitea/Tahaa, but our attempts to anchor in the long bay of Haamene, proved unsuccessful. Mud.. slippery mud. So as the day was rapidly coming to an end, and the winds were still at 20+ knots, we quickly got ourselves to Apu Bay, where we knew there were moorings. Not quick enough, for by the time we arrived, darkness had fallen.
Believe me, its not easy to pick up an unknown mooring ball in darkness, with 25kts of wind, amongst other unlit boats!
But we managed, (squished the tip of my finger in the process) and felt comfortable, having really tested the soundness of the mooring.
Bugsy Dive, who own moorings are no longer in business, as are many other things around here, so it seams.
I looked forward to snorkeling in the ‘coral garden’ but our attempt to anchor there or any where near was dubious. We decided to go back to the mooring at Apu Bay, before heading out to Bora Bora.
