Bora Bora, French Polynesia
26 June 2012
It was Sunday when we arrived to Bora Bora, and we were able to take a mooring in front of Bloody Mary's. Unfortunately it was shut, but perhaps not. We dined ther the next night, and well, its a bit touristy, with mediocre food. Fun though to see all the vacationers.
Took our bikes out and rode around the island, unaware as to how far that actually was!! Its actually a very nice ride, flat all the way, with a great view of the sculptural rock, and all the outlying motus/atolls.
But perhaps, as we have heard before, yes it is touristy, and time spent here is of little value, compared to the other French Polynesian Islands.
Take your time else where.
Supermarket was far better in Huahine.
Its all a bit scrummy here.
Highlight was that near the Bloody Mary moorings is The Farm, Pearl jewelry shop. I decided to have something made up of the pearl James found in Manihi, and a beautiful young lady was drilling away on my pearl. It transpired that she is Miss Bora Bora! James of course was very chuffed, and enjoyed having his picture taken standing by her side...
Also good walk from the car park, up to the antennas for a great view. The original and oldest Bora Bora hotel you see in the picture, was damaged badly in the 2009 hurricane. It is still shut.
