If you are going to cruise the New England area you really need radar. Fog is very common. We were lucky not to encounter heavy fog, but we got a taste of it.

Newport is as pretty a post card. It looks just like one imagines a New England harbor town to look. Cute little cottages surrounded with hydrangea and rose bushes, fishy smelling wharf and lots of souvenier shops. Once ashore, Marc pointed out points of interest and gave us the lay of the land. We strolled along Thames Street, shopped for souvinier sweatshirts and stopped for lunch at a outdoor restaurant. The weather was absolutely gorgous, sunny and a perfect 78 degrees. After lunch Marc went to meet an old friend. Richard and I took off on a walking tour. We walked down Bellevue Ave looking at the magnificiant mansions constructed around the turn of the century. We crossed over to the Cliff Walk walking path that took us along the rocky coast of Rhode Island. Making our way past Salve Regina University, Newport Beach and finally ending back at the wharf were we started. By this time Marc had finished his visit and we were all ready to meet for ice cream. We wandered through the fish market to see the fresh lobsters, but decided to wait till we got to Maine before buying one. We dinghied back to our cozy home away from home for yet another one of Marc's culinary wonders. It was a good day.

It took us 5 1/2 days to get from Ft Lauderdale to our 1st stop of Newport, RI. Traveling up to 150 miles off shore. We past by many interesting places, Savanah GA, Beaufort NC, Atlantic City NJ, Long Island NY. We never saw any of it. Our first land sighting was Block Island RI. We had a variety of weather, but mostly good weather. One night a thunderstorm passed over us which kept us on our toes for a couple of hours. Other times we had winds anywhere from 0 to 25 knots of mostly down wind sailing. Our vessel traveled fast and smooth (except for the day after the thunderstorm).
