Gulf of Fonseca – So we have the ice maker but a freezer that doesn’t keep the ice frozen. Moody Blues does not have an ice maker but they have a much better freezer than us. So, we make the ice, they use it and keep it frozen for us. This is usually not an issue except when neither boat has a dingy in the water – here Kent is swimming back to Hiatus with a cooler full of ice from Moody Blues to ensure we have a cold cocktails.
Puesta del Sol, Nicaragua – Marina Puesta del Sol is a small marina but a great place to stop for a few days.
Puesta del Sol, Nicaragua – Dug out canoes along the shore.
Puesta del Sol, Nicaragua – Glenn and Heather team up for a game of bocce ball on the beach with a bunch of other cruisers.
Meet Glenn! Glenn shows us all the proper way to paddle a kayak – who would have guessed it was his first time in one? Glenn met us in Nicaragua and will help us get the boat down to Ecuador.
Bahia Santa Elena, Costa Rica – We watched the sky dramatically change colors as the sun set against thunderclouds. Perhaps one of the best sunsets we have seen thus far!
Bahia Santa Elena, Costa Rica - This bay is part of Santa Rosa National Park and was one of our favorite anchorages. Here, thunderclouds were rising as the sun was starting to set.
Islas Murcielagos, Costa Rica – Pretty cool clouds swept by us during the day that we spent in Bahia Murcielagos.
Ricon de la Vieja National Park, Costa Rica – The picture doesn’t give the true scale but this was a really tall and beautiful waterfall.
Ricon de la Vieja National Park, Costa Rica – Trail covered in roots.
Ricon de la Vieja National Park, Costa Rica – Although it is only the start of the rainy season here, the rivers seem to have plenty of water rushing through them.
Ricon de la Vieja National Park, Costa Rica – Leaf cutter ants that were traveling up and down a really tall tree. Apparently, leaf cutters travel as far as 5 kilometers away from the nest to gather the leaves they need. A nest we stumbled upon later in the hike was as large and tall as a dining room table!
Ricon de la Vieja National Park, Costa Rica – There were some really cool colors around the fumaroles as a result of the chemical reactions taking place.
Ricon de la Vieja National Park, Costa Rica – Bubbling mud pot.
Ricon de la Vieja National Park, Costa Rica – Fumarole. A nearby sign indicated that temperatures can get as high as 248F!
