We left Hiatus in Bahia de Caraquez where she will remain safe until we return to her in a month's time. It is a 5 hour bus ride south to Guayaquil, the largest city in Ecuador and the closest international airport to Bahia. Arriving in Guayaquil we checked into a nice hotel for 2 nights in the downtown area ($25/night) and set out on foot to do some exploring.

If we were intelligent we would have started learning Spanish the day we got our boat. Even learning just 3 words a day by now we would have acquired the vocabulary of the average three-year-old (who has mastered about 1,000 words). Let's just say based on the number of Spanish words we currently know we can not even understand what a Spanish speaking three year old is even saying!

We have settled into Bahia de Caraquez and Puerto Amistad and are glad we traveled the distance to wait out the next few months down here. At the most basic level our needs are simple: Kent needs a reliable internet connection to feed his addiction and a place that sells cold beer, I need a safe (and preferably scenic) place to jog and a heladeria (ice cream store) - ironic, I know. Luckily our needs are met here plus we get so much more!
