On the Move!
28 November 2011 | St. Lucia
Well everyone it's time to start writing the blog again as we are finally on the move. On Monday the 14th of November we
moved the boat over to the St. George's anchorage where it would be easy to stock up the boat. All needed stores are
close to the dinghy docks. We are travelling with our friends Ryan and Jennifer on Sandy Dreams. Jen and I went to the
bulk food store and purchased quite a bit and the best part of that is that they will deliver it to the dinghy dock for us.
The not so good part of that was it was raining cats and dogs when they called to say they were at the dock with our stuff.
They were good about waiting for five minutes until the rain eased a bit and we met them at the dock to collect our stuff.
We left Grenada on Wed. the 16th and headed for Carriacou. The winds were supposed to be 10-15 kts out of the north east
but what we got for most of the day was 25-30 kts. It was a beat-me-up but we arrived safely. There is a fuel boat in the
anchorage with cheaper fuel than the marinas but unfortunately they were out of fuel the day we wanted to get some. Oh
well, we'll just have to get it up island. On Friday the 18th we checked into Union Island which was just a 6 mile run
from where we were and we had fun bar hopping back from the airport where immigration is. There is a bar on the shoal in
front of the anchorage that a local has built over a ten year span. He used conch shells as its base and poured concrete
over the shells. It is quite a place and he has pictures hanging of the different stages of his build, quite interesting.
The next day we went the two miles to Tobago Cays. It is beautiful there and you can go swimming with the turtles!
On Tuesday the 22 we left the Tobago Cays and moved up to Bequia. We had stopped here on our way down the islands and
really like this little town. The sail to Bequia was great right up until we were 2 miles from the anchorage. We could
see the island was getting hit with a large squall and that it was heading toward us. We took down all the sails and got
hit with it about 5 minutes later. We had to lay ahull for 15 minutes waiting for it to pass so that we could see the
anchorage and make our way in.
It is now the 28th of November and we are in St. Lucia. Getting here we again experienced 25-30kts of wind for part of the
day but again arrived safely. We will be here for a few more days waiting for our weather window to continue north.
Hope you are all well,
TTFN
