Jackie/Blustery Day
We finally left St. Martin on March 27 and headed south to St. Christopher's (St. Kitts) on a calm day which of course
meant we were motoring again but we did know this would be the case. It was an uneventful trip and we arrived in
Basseterre Bay at 4:00pm. We went ashore, checked in and then moved on down to White House Bay where there is a very
nice anchorage with good holding. Chris went for a swim to check the anchor and he discover a line wrapped around the
propeller shaft. Apparently we ran over a fish pot. Thank heavens it didn't get wrapped around the prop.
On the 31st of March we made the short sail down to Nevis. We were about half way accross the channel that runs between
the islands when Chris spotted some mist on the water. At first he couldn't figure out what he was looking at and then
he saw it, Whale ho! It was our first whale spotting since starting this adventure and it was awesome!
We stayed in Nevis until the 3rd of April when we made the crossing over to Jolly Harbour, Antigua. We got checked in
and stayed here until the 6th when the anchorage became quite rolly. A rolly anchorage is really uncomfortable as you
roll from side to side, a lot, and everything on the counter starts sliding around and falling off unless nailed down.
We picked up anchor and went to the south side of the island to head east to Falmouth Harbour. Since we were heading east
again the wind and waves were on the nose and we crashed our way to the anchorage in 5-6 footers. Chris spotted his
second whale as we were making our turn into the channel at Falmouth. I missed it as it breached because I was on the
helm and watching where I was going. By the time I turned to look all I saw was the splash.
We were in Falmouth Harbour for about a week when friends we have made in Grenada started showing up for the Classic
Yacht Regatta, about 7 boats in all.
During the Regatta there were lots of parties going on and lots of excitment in the air. The yachts were fabulous and we
went out in our dinghy the one morning and got some awesome pictures of some of them. See the photo gallery for a few.
We left Antigua on the 26th and sailed south, and I do mean sailed finally, to Deshaies at the North West of Guadeloupe.
We are currently still here and are making a few repairs to the head sail, the UV protection is coming away from the
sail. We will have it re-stitched when we get back to Grenada.
Right now it looks like Tuesday before we can move on down to Les Saintes off the south east shore of Guadeloupe. There
is a very quaint little town there and some decent shopping.
That's it for now.
Be well, be happy
