Escape From Vero

10 April 2011 | Melbourne, FL
Doug & Connie
4/9 – We wait again. Doug got up this morning and began to wax the topsides of the boat - frustration I guess! About 12:15 we saw the mail truck go by, so Doug headed in to the office and the package we were waiting for had arrived. Back to the boat and hoist the dinghy, drop the mooring, go to the dock for water and a pump out and we were on our way by 1 PM. We headed up the ICW and dropped the anchor tonight about a mile south of Melbourne, FL

4/8 – Doug took the bus over to a post office branch and mailed the antenna back this morning. Since he just missed the bus back to the marina and would have to wait an hour for the next one, he decided to walk the two miles back to the marina. It was good exercise and only three blisters! The hearing aid did not come in as it was supposed to and now the tracking information indicates it will be here by 3 PM on Saturday, the 9th. We spent the afternoon cleaning and waxing to kill time.

4/7 – The dealer says the hearing aid should be here tomorrow based on their overnight shipping information. We spent some time talking to John from Albion, another Hunter 44DS, about some of the modifications we have made for cruising. We talked to Shakespeare about why our antenna is not working and they asked us to send it back and they would replace it with a different model.

4/6 – Today was more waiting for the hearing aid. We did go to the grocery store for last minute supplies figuring we would be leaving soon. Then it was more minor chores on the boat. We found out quite by accident that the propane solenoid in the propane locker (that shuts off the flow of propane into the boat) was stuck in the open position! We will have to be very careful with our propane use from now on. We have no idea how long it hasn’t been working, and we don’t want to mess with it until we get home in case we mess up and don’t have a stove for a while.
