Wow! The lava in the background is spewing several hundred feet in the air. We are standing on the rim on the west side. So the the trade winds are blowing the molten rocks away from us. Definitely a bit edgy if the wind weren't in our favor, this is the great thing about places that haven't been taken over by bureacrats and nannies. You could feel the heat from the eruptions, the smell was intense, and the noise was amazing, and the shaking ground was a bit nerve rattling. We all ended up with a gritty covering of ash by the end of our visit, not to mention burning eyes. The crater seemed to have about 3 different places that would explode. Sometimes the molten lava and red glowing rocks would reach five or six hundred feet in the air. Many the size of a car door. The volcano was at an activity level of 2, on a scale of 5 I think. The ride in the back of the pick-up on a rough dirt track through the jungle in the dark afterward was almost as impressive. Very dark and dense jungle, amazing stars abve, huge banyan trees, flying foxes and the occasional macheting carrying person appearin g out of the dark.
