07/15/2010, Angra Do Heroismo, Terceira, Azores
What did you do last night?
We are in the Marina DÂ'Angra in the town of Angra do Heroismo on the Island of Terciera in the Azores. Last night we went to bullfighting in the street. Literally bull fighting in the street. But not the Spanish type with swords and killing the bull. They just let bulls out one at a time, with the bull on a very long rope. 5 guys would hold the rope to slow it down if it ran for the crowd. And there were a number of fighters who would take turns around the bull. Simon got to close with his video taping, on 2 occasions no less. And the bull charged him. Once he got away with several feet between him and the bull to a loud cheer from the crowd. The second time the bull missed him by about 1 inch. And he broke his shoe and skinned his knee as he escaped. The fighters jumped in to draw the attention away.
I stayed a little farther back ?.
The closest I got was when I took this photo. Notice that the bulls feet are off the ground as he is in mid charge. I was about 25 ft away.

Having a blast in Sao Miguel. The Azores are are wonderfully verdant and friendly. Lots of of cool volcanic stuff. Yesterday we went swimming in the little swimming hole in the ocean that is shown in the picture. There is a volcanic hot spring that feeds into the ocean there. At high tide the water is about 17 degrees celsius. At low tide it is about 48 celsius. So you have to watch how close you get to the spring, and when. We went last night about half an hour after low tide. Full moon too. So it was beautiful. The pic was from the afternoon when we learned what time of day we should come back :).

Today I head to the Azores.
I'm going to go hang out with Simon of Nathanael for a bit.
We'll spend a little time exploring the Azores, including some diving.
Then we'll sail Nathanael to France. The trip to France should take about 2 weeks.
I'm looking forward to spending a little time in France with Simon before flying back in early August too!

We are back in NY for a short time.
Note that I have added a bunch of galleries of photos--which may not be obvious if you don't look for them.
I will also be adding pics to a bunch of the blog entries that don't have pics.
Except for shroud cay, which shall remain shrouded, as I have no pics!!
It is kind of fun being back in NY and not working!!!

To those interested.
I spoke to Simon, Andrea, Esther and Damien of Nathanael, yesterday.
They are safely in anchorage in Horta, in the Azores, after 22 days at sea.

06/14/2010, Cape Lookout, NC
Its about 7 am and we are just rolling in to Cape Lookout.
We've crossed our initial wake, and it seems like we have come back to where we started. It seems like a very long time ago that we were sitting in the Core Creek yard in beaufort packing the boat to get ready, and doing last minute repairs and maintenance.
Soon we'll bring the boat into the jarret bay yard, then hop in the truck to head to NY for Stephen and Rivers last week of school.

We couldn't take the heat, so we've jumped offshore to do a double overnight to Beaufort. Right now we are about 15 miles offshore, SE of Charleston.

We are in an anchorage off Hilton Head now. Nice area. We biked a lot yesterday and today. But it is damn hot and humid. I can't wait to get out of here. We will leave in the morning.
We've finally departed from the last of our little group of boats that we hung out with in the Berries. Its a sad day.
We'll miss everyone on Las Sirenas, Asolare, Southern Star.

06/07/2010, Thunderbolt, GA
We've made it to Thunderbolt, thus delivering Scott and Las Sirenas safely to the Savannah area all safe and sound.
Thunderbolt is sort of a strange little place. Not much in the way of a waterfront. There is one good marine store, one restaurant "Tubby's" (with very good fresh locally caught fish).
Its painfully hot and humid...98 and humid.
