Continuing to move north.
Today we moved from Coinjock, NC to Great Bridge, VA--which is part of metropolitan Norfolk. It is a good spot to stop because it is right before a set of locks and bridges that take some time to get through. Plus they have good mechanics etc. here which may be able to help me sort out a hydraulic system issue. I continue to be amazed at how beautiful and remote eastern NC can be... Its a beautiful trip of the ICW along here.

Just crossed the Albemarle today.
Very windy. Mostly 28 to 33 kts apparent.
Nice day, though it was a bit bumpy driving to weather.
Felt good to get into Coinjock and out of the wind.
Very nice restaurant, surprisingly. Great steak, shrimp, fish, scallops and crab cakes. Good fried chicken too :).
The picture is of the Elizabeth II, back in Manteo. It is a replica of one of the original ship that attempted the first English settlement in America.

Arrived Manteo, NC (Roanoke Island) last night about 6. A bit tight getting in here due to some shallow depths. We are looking forward to exploring today. This is one of the earliest settlements in the U.S. Although it was abandoned early on too. They refer to the earliest settlement as the Lost Settlement.

Ok, so we have explored now :).
Very nice little town. We went and toured the park dedicated to the lost settlement, which was the first attempt by the English to settle in America-- and they had a mock settlement with all the things that the original ships would have brought with them. As you will see in the picture, Stephen thought the "actor" was a bit odd. Heh. Heh.

We are sitting in Silver Lake at Ocracoke. Great spot. Turns out its the Ocrafolk, Folk Festival this weekend. I'll post a pic or two soon. (still planning on updating the galleries soon....when my arm heals and can type better) We'll probably stay here for a week or two...
