We left Annapolis today

Whaddya Know. Another storm. We were trying to get up through the C&D canal today, but stopped short for a couple of hours just to let a storm pass. We tucked in to minimize the effects of 60kt winds. Nice little spot for dinner :) dropped anchor about 6pm. Then picked it up about 10:30pm to move through the canal.

Annapolis, What a great place.
We were lucky to get a mooring in the main mooring field and had a great view of the fireworks. Spent the night hanging out with the crew of Starry Night, as well as with Paul and his son from Cash Flow.
We also hooked up with Sean Kennedy and Weston a little later in the week--Great to see you guys!

Starting to get a few thunderstorms under our belt. We had a couple wicked storms in Beaufort, again at River Dunes, again in Ocracoke, a couple more in Norfolk, including a mid storm rescue of a friends boat that dragged out into the middle of the channel. We actually had to jump off the boat while trying to rescue it, and zoom away in the dinghy, because we thought we might get smashed by a large tug and barge. But it passed and we went back and got the boat pulled to safety with the help of another friendly tug. Now today we have more thunderstorms. Lost a life jacket overboard, which Amy recovered with a boat hook before it blew too far away. We've been in a Marina in Deale since yesterday. Stopped here to get some expert help with our SSB Radio, and learned it is fried. Sigh.... We had planned to go to Annapolis today, but with thunderstorms forecast, we thought it might be better to be at a dock rather than in a crowded anchorage. We are going to try for Annapolis tomorrow in hopes of a nice fireworks show, and the kids ought to be able to meet up with the kids from Starry Night.

Hmmmm, to eat on the boat, or go out. These are the tough decisions in life. Long day on the water today. 9a to 6p. 15kts on the nose while crossing the potomac today made for some bumps. All in all a beautiful day. Sunny and mid 80's. Water is about 81.

We are presently cruising up the Chesapeake between Deltaville, VA and Solomons, MD. Spent last night in Deltaville, VA, in Jackson's Creek. Very nice quiet spot. Very near a nesting osprey family. Noisy buggers though...

We made a very short trip today from Great Bridge, VA to downtown Norfolk/Portsmouth. We are anchored off Hospital Point. Its a nice area, as we found out when we were here in November of 2009.
We don't know where to go next. Any suggestions?

Continuing to move north.
Today we moved from Coinjock, NC to Great Bridge, VA--which is part of metropolitan Norfolk. It is a good spot to stop because it is right before a set of locks and bridges that take some time to get through. Plus they have good mechanics etc. here which may be able to help me sort out a hydraulic system issue. I continue to be amazed at how beautiful and remote eastern NC can be... Its a beautiful trip of the ICW along here.

Just crossed the Albemarle today.
Very windy. Mostly 28 to 33 kts apparent.
Nice day, though it was a bit bumpy driving to weather.
Felt good to get into Coinjock and out of the wind.
Very nice restaurant, surprisingly. Great steak, shrimp, fish, scallops and crab cakes. Good fried chicken too :).
The picture is of the Elizabeth II, back in Manteo. It is a replica of one of the original ship that attempted the first English settlement in America.

Arrived Manteo, NC (Roanoke Island) last night about 6. A bit tight getting in here due to some shallow depths. We are looking forward to exploring today. This is one of the earliest settlements in the U.S. Although it was abandoned early on too. They refer to the earliest settlement as the Lost Settlement.

Ok, so we have explored now :).
Very nice little town. We went and toured the park dedicated to the lost settlement, which was the first attempt by the English to settle in America-- and they had a mock settlement with all the things that the original ships would have brought with them. As you will see in the picture, Stephen thought the "actor" was a bit odd. Heh. Heh.
