It was a long day from Solomons Island. We just arrived at 11:45 pm, after 16 hrs on the water. We will be getting up at 4:30 a.m. to work our way through the Norfolk bridges and lock, and we'll try to get to Manteo, NC.

Dividing Creek to Solomons. The march begins.

We left Dividing Creek (off Magothy Bay, North of Annapolis) today. We've had a great time hanging out here, aside from our visits from the police while we were tied up to an unused dock at a Marina that had been foreclosed upon ha ha :). This is a very peaceful and beautiful place during the fall--and the kids have had a ball hanging out with Colton, Darby, Chris and Josh and the other kids from the neighborhood.. We really enjoyed hanging out at the home of the crew of Hullabaloo (Dave, Lisa, Brie, Colton and Darby)--Thanks for the wonderful hospitality guys! We hope you start your trip soon. And thanks to the crew of Liberty (Dave, Nancy, Chris and Josh) for introducing us, and for also hanging out with us. Get those solar panels on, and get going!! See you soon.

We have set an agressive schedule--we head for Norfolk tomorrow (long 18 hr day), to be followed by a long day to Manteo beginning at 5 a.m. to get through the Norfolk bridges and lock (about 14 hrs total). Then, weather permitting, we will bash our way down the Pamlico Sound to get to Beaufort before halloween weekend.

We were wrong!!

Its freezing again!! We've been sitting in Annapolis, watching the harbor transform for the upcoming boat show. Lows have been in the low 40's and highs in the 50's and 60's. Today it is supposed to get up to seventy though--hooray! One consolation is that the crabs have not yet gone to mud. So we spent the afternoon crabbing with Nancy, Chris and Josh from Liberty. The picture shows Stephen, Josh, Rivers and Chris picking the crabs last night. We ended up with about a pound and a half of crab meat. We will catch some more over the next few days and plan to have a big crab cake feast this coming monday while we watch them disassemble the show.

Moving!!!

We are enjoying a lovely ride. Sailed down the Jersey coast last night. 14kt winds on the port beam. A small swell on the bow to make it a little bumpy, but not too bad. Now we are just getting through the C&D canal. And its getting hot! We are all back in shorts again. Nice!!

This pic above is from the night before last when we headed into the east river from Long Island sound at the start of this trip.

Heading South?

We are in Mamaroneck harbor again. We left Oyster Bay yesterday morning. Arrived in Mamaroneck 2 hours later. Then drove our cars to Maryland to drop one off at a Marina near Annapolis. Today we are supposed to get Stephen's big hatch cover back. If we can get it installed later today, we will head south with the turn of the current tonight around 8pm. We'll make our way to Sandy Hook, then Cape May, then up the Delaware, through the C&D canal, and then down the Chesapeake towards the Annapolis area.

Lovely Beginnings of Fall

I need to put some pictures up!

We have spent the last several days in Oyster Bay, NY. Its a great well protected harbor, with a ton of sailing going on. During the weekly Wednesday night races, there must have been 5 or 6 classes of boats racing. And there were probably 60 boats involved. Morning Glory was anchored near one of the marks, so we got to enjoy all the action while sipping some wine and enjoying some snacks. Thursday night was a bit rough. Wind was blowing about 30 for several hours, and we had to move to a better location for the night. Friday was gorgeously sunny and about 72, with the feeling of fall in the air (not to mention the lows around 50).

As soon as we get our hatch back from Hatchmasters, and install it, we'll be heading south.

never ending work?

Hmmm lets see: Replace starboard engine water pump. Replace strainer with micro crack in it. Clean barnacles out of intake through hull. Remove port aft hatch cover to replace lens than came unseated (just replaced in may $#@%#@) Build temporary cover for hatch. Discover and repair propane leak. Good thing we discovered it. (hope its actually repaired). Install repaired autopilot hydraulic pump. Burn through 5 gallon pail of hydraulic oil trying to bleed the lines. Install repaired autopilot computer. Install radar relflector. (drilling and tapping 2/3 up the mast) Go to top of mast to install repaired masthead nav/anchor lights, only to discover that the company did not send back the bracket that goes with the light. Installed new transom shower. (still fighting through broken plumbing items from those morons who 'winterized' our boat).

This was just the past 3 days.

Must find warm beach soon......

Whew!

All is well.
No harm from Irene.
Our neighbor on the dock, who was in the Marina during the storm, says that the docks were about a foot from the top of the pilings. This storm, and the result, could have been much worse.
The post storm weather is beautiful. 82 degrees, sunny, dry, and no wind.
We are still in New Rochelle, and are now packing up Morning Glory again and getting ready to go.

Come on Irene

Waiting for Irene is not fun.
The antipation is killing us.
We are a little concerned about the potential storm surge.
If it is high enough, the docks would float off over the top of the pilings.
