I Found the Bump!

15 October 2009 | Swansboro, NC
Mike
I left the Morhead City Yacht Basin at about 0930 and headed to Caspers Marina in Swansboro. I had heard that the cold, windy and rainy weather was supposed to continue through the weekend and then warm up considerably. I decided to wait out the bad weather in Swansboro, which is a cool little town.

When approaching Swansboro from the north, one has to cross Bogue Inlet. I have heard several cruisers refer to hitting a mysterious uncharted "bump" in the channel while crossing the inlet. In my two previous crossings I did not find this "bump." This time, I did. BOOM!

Fortunately the "bump" feels like its made of sand, so I was able to get off and continue without any damage. TIP: When transiting this area near Green Can "45" pass well to the west, nearer to the shore.

I arrived and tied up at Caspers without incident, prepared to wait for better weather.
