So Close......

Mike
Well, I made the short, albeit windy crossing of St. Simons Sound yesterday and past the last (hopefully) trouble spot as far as reported shoaling, Jekyll Creek. I'm tied up at the Jekyll Harbor Resort Marina.

Its a great little marina with a very competent and helpful staff, but calling this place a "resort" may be stretching the meaning of the word just a bit...I'm just sayin'.

When I woke up this morning, the outside temperature was 34. (For the record, I'm not whining just relaying information.) It was still toasty warm inside the Norma Fay, so there!

As I write this, I'm a mere 30 statute miles from Fernandina Beach, FL.
In order to get there, I have to cross Jekyll Island Sound before entering a series of rivers and creeks. Crossing Jekyll Island Sound is no big deal, EXCEPT in strong N/E winds which can make the crossing uncomfortable at best and dangerous at worst. Would anyone care to guess the forecast for today? Yes, you in the back.... That's right N/E winds 10-20 knots! Very good.

Ergo, being the confirmed coward that I am, I'm sticking around today and I'm planning (hopefully) to make the jump to Florida tomorrow. Right now, they're forecasting calmer winds and slightly warmer temperatures. Lets keep our fingers crossed shall we?
