Seafarer Yachts - 1965-1985
Seafarer Fiberglass Yachts, Inc., of Huntington, New York began as the US distributor for the SWIFTSURE, MERIDIAN, and RANGER, all designed by Philip Rhodes. These were first built at the Amsterdam Shipyard, Inc., by G. DeVries Lentsch, in the late 1950's. In 1965, however, all production moved to a new plant in Huntington, NY. At around this same time, production of a Bill Tripp designed 31 footer began. A Tripp 39 footer was later added to the group. During the '70's, most designs were from McCurdy & Rhodes. These were probably the largest group of models produced, including another popular SWIFTSURE. Other yachts included 48 and 23 footers by Sparkman and Stephens. Seafarer also built some of the 31' ATLANTIC Class sloops, designed by Starling Burgess. They also offered many of their models in kit form.
The company ceased production in the mid-80's.

MODEL - SD - Shoal Draft; also referred to as CB for Swing Keel; Race Deck

Capsize ratio - 1.91 (below 2 is good)

Hull speed - 6.2 knots (7.13mpg) The hull speed formula is 1.34 times the square root of a boat's waterline length in feet. The longer the waterline, the faster the boat. A boat that has a 20-foot length on the waterline (LWL) can theoretically go six knots. A shorter boat, say 15-foot LWL, can do 5.2 knots. A 25-foot LWL boat can do 6.7 knots. There isn't a huge difference in speed to be gained by paying for five extra feet or more. The LWI of the S29' is 21.25'. The square root of 21.25 = 4.609 x 1.34 = 6.177 knots.

Sail area to displacement ration - 19.2 (main and 150% genoa), 12.96 (main and working jib) (a number less than 13 indicates motor-sailer and a number above 18 indicates a high performance boat)

Displacement to LWL - 310 (a number above 300 indicates heavy cruising boat),

Keel is lead.

Rudder is skeg-mounted.
