Last Gasps
23 October 2013
Its getting colder. There was frost on the car this morning, and the forecast for the weekend is predicting temps in the lower 50's. The leaves are peaking. Its definitely fall.
On Saturday (Oct 19), we went out for a sail with Diane and David; they haven't been on the boat in years. In fact, they were saying that they've never been out in the Sound on the boat as the weather hasn't cooperated ever. We got to the boat at about 3 pm, and quickly headed out. The breeze wasn't too strong at the dock, but out in the harbor it seemed to be blowing much stronger. Patti said she didn't want to heel at all, so we unrolled the Genny once past the Mermaids, leaving the main furled. The wind was blowing from the southeast, so we had to tack back and forth a couple of times before we made it out into the Sound.
Winds were blowing about 12 knots, and the seas were about 1-2 feet. We got some occasional spray into the cockpit as we sailed out past the Cow and Calf, then headed back east. Skies were gray and overcast, and it was probably no warmer than the lower 60's. It felt great to be back out on the boat after so long. But I realize that is probably going to be it for the year. I plan on going to the boat this Saturday (Oct 26) to break her down for the year.
