Tension relief(?), unexpected "guests" and too much wind
02 September 2014
Labor Day weekend. We kept saying that we were going to go sailing, but we put it off and put it off. Friday didn't happen, so Patti and I decided that Saturday was the day. We both needed a break from the "not-quite-empty nest" blues, so we loaded up the cooler and went to the boat. It was a beautiful day, but a little windy. The main was already reefed, so l left that in, and off we went: me as captain, Patti as first mate/admiral; and Lily as supercargo.
We raised sail in the outer harbor, which I think was a bit of a mistake, seeing as how it required us to tack three times to get out beyond the rocks. It was a very high tide, but for some reason, the water was very choppy. With only a small amount of genny out (to reduce heeling), we were barely making 3 knots and were getting bounced around. After about 10 or 15 minutes of sailing, Patti said she was getting a little queasy, so we decide to head back in. I suggested we pick up a mooring (it was surprisingly empty in the inner harbor), but Little Dic made the call to go back to the dock. So back to the dock for lunch, a beer and some reading. Then off to do a few errands and back home.
Not much on the tension relief front, but better than nothing.
Off to DC on Tuesday for the entire week! Arrrgh!
